Great Musician Plane Crashes – Memorial Monday

Today I would like to remember some of the great musicians that have died in plane or helicopter crashes. The one I find most Ironic is John Denver, because of his song “Leaving on a Jet Plane”.

Here is a list:

– John Denver

– Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, The Big Bopper

– Ronnie VanZant, guitarist Steve Gaines, vocalist Cassie Gaines

– Stevie Ray Vaughan

– Jim Croce

– Patsy Cline

– Aaliyah

– Ricky Nelson

– Otis Redding

King Henry VIII – Memorial Monday

Let us remember King Henry VIII. Many know him as the “Royal Beheader” (a rather unfair observation that is likely caused by some excitable, judgmental person.) I will point out that, although from a modern person’s point of view Henry’s actions may seem brutish and unacceptable, during the time in which Henry reigned his behaviour was acceptable of a king.

Both of the wives whom Henry had beheaded knew exactly what they were getting into when they married him. There is no reason that anyone should feel pity for these women. In his latter years Henry had a seriously infected leg wound, gangrene, and syphilis. His death was not pleasant (if you are a hater, this is his payback).

I sympathize with Henry VIII because he did what he had to do to fulfil his duty as a king, which is to continue his family’s bloodline.

Memorial Monday

J.R.R. Tolkien was the one who created the fantastical world of Middle Earth. Full of elves, hobbits, dwarves, and many other mythical creatures, Middle Earth has given generations of people a place to escape from the real world. As a known pipe smoker and an esteemed fantasy writer, this man has forever changed the world of fiction. I know this may not seem important to some people, but I deem Tolkien worthy of being praised for his work.

If you disagree with me, then just look at how popular Harry Potter is. J.K. Rowling took many ideas from Tolkien’s works and used them in Harry Potter. But let us not get caught up in senselessly arguing about this.

I would also like to commend Peter Jackson, the screenplay writers, and everyone else involved in the creation of The Lord of the Rings movies for their fruitful efforts and fabulous work. These people really brought Middle Earth to life and heightened its popularity extremely. The Hobbit movie is coming out soon and I am very much looking forward to it. Because Peter Jackson and Howard Shore are involved with the making of it, I believe it will be a most excellent film.

This is my favourite poem by J.R.R. Tolkien:

“All that is gold does not glitter,

not all those who wander are lost;

the old that is strong does not wither,

deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,

a light from the shadows shall spring;

renewed shall be blade that was broken,

the crownless again shall be king.”

More to Come

Within a week I will be starting Thumbs up Thursdays and Memorial Mondays.

Every Thursday I will be giving a thumbs up to somebody who has done something that I dub to be praiseworthy. This can include other bloggers, world leaders, historical persons, musicians, or really just anyone that I think has done something interesting. I will explain exactly what my opinion is on the subject and why I think he/she is praiseworthy.

Also, every Monday I will be sharing my views on a moment or person in history. This moment or person can have made a great or small impact on the world and the people living in it. As glorious as history is, I will usually relate whatever I post about on Memorial Mondays to present day people or events.

Feel free to E-mail suggestions to me at michaelboulet@live.ca

Cheers,

Mike
